Artist Statement
The artistic world has always been a passion for me. I started drawing
before I could even read or write. I have meticulously studied the
masters and learned from some of the greatest teachers of the twentieth
century. I see the entire world through a virtual viewfinder and I am
always composing pictures in mind. While most of the world reads and
writes from left-to-right, I visualize the world in foreground and
background.
Photography and watercolor painting are my current mediums of choice. I
am passionate about nature and I love exploring it to get just the right
image. I find putting in the extra effort to be there for the early
dawn hours and the late day sunset hours are extremely rewarding for me
and I love being a part of nature’s magical time.
One of the foremost goals in my artwork is to create a visceral emotion.
I see the artist in me as a visual storyteller. This cinematic emotion
is definitely influenced by my work as a creative director in the
advertising business. I want the viewer to feel a connection to the
subject matter almost as if they themselves are part of the artwork.
Creating art is generally a very solitary act for me. There is an odd
vulnerable feeling to it since it is actually being created for the
art-lover. The moment of unveiling is filled with pride, anxiety, joy
and maybe even fear. The mind races through the questions, Will they
love it? Will they hate it? Or worse yet, will they not even notice it?
No matter where my artwork falls in this spectrum of art-loving
opinions, I make the decision to move on and I let the viewer have their
own relationship with the artwork. It is time to awake for the next
sunrise or chase mother-nature’s light into the next sunset.
